Seasonal Windshield Care in the Okanagan Valley: Summer Edition

Summer in the Okanagan is one of the most beautiful times to be on the road. But while you’re out enjoying the lakes, vineyards, and warm weather, your windshield is working hard to keep you safe - and it deserves a little TLC too.
Here’s what Okanagan drivers should watch out for, and how to keep your view ahead crystal clear this season.
Heat Stress and Windshield Cracks
When your car sits under that blazing Okanagan sun, your windshield can heat up fast. If you’ve got a chip hiding in there, the stress from the hot glass meeting cool A/C air inside your vehicle can cause it to spread.
Friendly advice from the shop:
If you can, try parking in the shade or using a windshield sunshade. And if you’ve spotted a chip, even a tiny one, swing by and let us take a look. It could save you a full replacement down the line.
Bugs, Dust & Road Grime
Highway trips and warm weather mean more bugs in the air, and more of them on your windshield. Combined with the dry, dusty conditions common in the Okanagan during the summer months, this can quickly obscure visibility and damage your wipers.
What we’d tell a neighbour:
Top up your washer fluid with one designed for summer bugs, and check those wiper blades - they don’t last forever in this dry heat. We’ll happily give them a check if you’re unsure.
Off-Road Adventures = Hidden Risks
Summer is peak season for exploring backroads, wine country, and campgrounds throughout the valley. But gravel roads and construction zones can lead to flying debris and fine dust particles that wear down your windshield over time or cause small impact chips.
Our local tip:
Give the car ahead of you a little extra space, especially on dusty or loose gravel roads. And after those scenic drives? Give your windshield a rinse before wiping it—dry dust can scratch your glass more than you’d think.
Wildfire Season: Smoke & Ash Residue
During wildfire season, even if the flames are far away, ash and fine debris can still settle on your car. When mixed with morning dew or washer fluid, this residue can smear across your windshield and reduce visibility.
What we see every year:
Avoid running your wipers over dry ash. A quick rinse first goes a long way. Regularly inspect wipers for ash buildup, and if your wipers are looking rough, we’ve got replacements ready.
